The definition of oblivion is “the state of being unaware or unconscious of what is happening,” which, when taking the new Tom Cruise movie Oblivion into consideration, is ironic because the filmmakers, to a fault, are acutely aware of what their movie is. Oblivion is full of good ideas, but unfortunately those good ideas are, scene by scene, pulled from other, better movies.
I think the tet is aware that the jack going rogue is an issue and that’s why they’re on a 5 year mission and will be rewarded with going to titan (permanently retired). And I think the victoria’s know more on purpose so they can keep an eye on jack and keep him distracted. The only unresolved issue is how the original wave of clones waged war on humanity. Humans were clearly humans then, not mask-wearing “scavs”. I still loved the movie though.
You’re forgetting 5) go to one of the other planets in the solar system that has equally abundant resources and bypass humanity as a whole, conserving resources and maximizing your haul. I loved the movie. It was structured very well. When I thought they’d start wrapping it up (this happened a few times), it just ramped up again. Large enough zones to fly. Cabin could be in Vermont and the sucked dry ocean became a desert.
The movie reviews on this site seem to be more contrarian than anything. I might you can’t really be contrarian to nerd icon extravaganzas like the Avengers and Dark Knight Rises, but so many of the other reviews seem to be written to contrast other reviews instead of standing on their own as insightful analysis. Nicole Kidman was born in Hawaii and grew up in Sydney NSW. She did study and work in Melbourne Victoria.
Once the table is set we’re introduced to Jack Harper (Tom Cruise), a drone maintenance engineer who, along with Victoria (Andrea Riseborough), is one of the two last remaining humans on Earth (or so we’re told). Their job is to ensure the drones protect the reactors sucking the ocean dry from the “Scavs” and in two weeks they’re scheduled to join the rest of humanity. Of course, things are about to change and truths are about to come to light.
Halloween 5 continues one year after Part 4 leaves off and finds the traumatized young Jamie, now mute and suffering disturbing psychic visions of her evil uncle, in residence at Haddonfield Children’s Clinic. This sequel is distinctively dark and European in style and cinematography, with some effectively hair-raising cat-and-mouse chase sequences between Michael and Jamie in a cornfield, a forest, and through the halls of Uncle Mike’s childhood home (which has now inexplicably quadrupled in size and is reminiscent of an abandoned Brothers Grimm castle).
There aren’t enough words to describe how much I detested every miserable minute and every uneducated and unintelligent phallic joke, as the film sports comedic talents equivalent to the drawings that used to be showcased on my home refrigerator when I was 5. There’s a special place in hell for Scary Movie 5. It’s bad by Hollywood standards. It’s bad even by Scary Movie standards. It’s bad by Tommy Wiseau and Uwe Boll standards. Bolt is a hilarious movie. It is about a dog who thinks he is a superhero.
I have to disagree, even though she was great in the Scary Movies I think she shone brightest in The House Bunny. Her character was every bit as clueless and endearing, but she also brought enough heart for an animated Disney princess. I think she out-did Reese Witherspoon in Legally Blonde, character vs character. Japanese Boy: Nissan Honda Mitsubishi Subaru! Subtitles: I was killed and my soul walks the earth!
Scary Movie 5 is filled with gross-out jokes that push the boundaries of good taste. The film also lacks a coherent structure, isn’t edited particularly well, has some voice over problems and is filled with too many unnecessary cameos. Coupled with some less than stellar acting performances and a subject matter that doesn’t really push the envelope, this horror spoof has a ton of problems. None of those issues have anything to do with why this movie isn’t worth recommending, however. The only real problem of substance with Scary Movie 5 is that it’s filled to the brim with horrendous jokes, and those gags that do succeed (many of which involve Sheen and Lohan ) just aren’t good enough to make up for the general malaise of failure that hangs over the rest of the production.
I agree with the comment that this is EXACTLY like the Wayan’s movie Haunted house which is coming out in Jan while this will be out April. And in terms of the both movies relying heavily on the Paranormal 1 bedroom scenes: Its pretty sad when two separate TEAMS of film-making professionals (with millions of dollars in budgets) come up with the exact same tired troupe at the exact same time. I loathe the obvious and blatant parody…. thought it was stupid as a kid when I saw Space Balls”.

LUTZ: He’s such a good friend to me now. I miss the dude. He’s in Vancouver shooting. He’s Australian, so he’s already an awesome guy. I remember when I auditioned the first time, I came out and he was sitting there, and I was like, Oh, hey, man!” I didn’t know who he was, and I didn’t think Renny was auditioning anyone else. So, I went home and looked him up, found out that he was Spartacus, and I was like, God, dang it! He’s gonna get this role.” And then, when Renny told me I had the role, and Liam was going to play Sotiris, my right-hand man, I was like Thank god!” So, I went to Liam the day he got there and was like, Hey, man, I’m a huge fan of yours.
The film begins by recounting the legend of Hercules, with snippets of his famous 12 labors. But this is not the Steve Reeves version of the tale. Johnson’s Hercules (as envisioned by comic book author Steve Moore) is a flawed hero. Bereft over the murders of his wife and children, Hercules has joined up with a band of loyal comrades who will basically sell their services to the highest bidder. In other words, they’re mercenaries. But you can bet it won’t be too long before Hercules rediscovers a noble purpose.
Kopple responded to the news with the following statement: “It’s such an honor and thrill to be recognized with a Legacy Award from Cinema Eye and Hot Docs. Like Arnold Schwarzenegger before him, Dwayne Johnson was born to play Hercules. Like Ah-nuld, he’s muscular and not without an onscreen chemistry that’s at times perfectly mythological. And Johnson is a welcome change from the Nordic ideal mythical movies usually employ. It’s too bad that Hercules comes off as a supporting character in his own story. The armies do most of the fighting, and when there’s quiet, Johnson has to share the screen with his team. The movie is stolen by McShane’s oracle, who is the recipient of the aforementioned noble near-death scene, and Tydeus ( Aksel Hennie ), a warrior so scarred by violence that he is more animal than human.

The Box is rated PG13, for some violence and language. The movie runs 115 minutes. I will say that I did figure out the movie and what was going on part way through….and who was behind the box that was delivered to the Lewis family. I will not ruin it for you (as I did to the people I watched Sixth Sense with…I blurted out about 1/4 way through the movie that the move was stupid and why were we watching a dead guy talk to the kid…oops….no one else realized Bruce Willis was dead).
The Inbetweeners 2 grossed £2.75 million on its opening day of 6 August 2014, surpassing its predecessor as the top grossing opening day in the UK for a comedy film.4 By the end of its first weekend, it topped the UK box office with a gross of £12.5 million, surpassing watch inbetweeners 2 movie as the largest UK opening in 2014; this however was less than the £13.2 million opening of The Inbetweeners Movie in 2011. It topped the box office for a second week, in which it grossed £9.83 million.
Waited with anticipation for this film…but what a let down. The storyline, the characters and whole feel of this film just failed miserably after the 1st film. Hope they don’t do Inbetweeners no 3 based on the strength of this one!! Make the most of your experience in the comfort of our Premier seats, the best seats in the house. Upgrade today. Note: not all of our screens have Premier seating, and seats may vary.
The Inbetweeners wouldn’t be the same if their wasn’t a ton of gross out (Neil in a waterpark) and cringe worthy moments (Simon when he’s thirsty or Jay in his tent) Will is the king of those and in this film there is no exception. One thing we did learn is that he has a truly beautiful voice…… As always with Will he is trying to get the girl who is clearly massively out of his league. He hates his uni life which he was so looking forward to as well. There is no mention of his ex girlfriend from the previous film or explanation as to why they broke up (same with Neil).
Coming from director Guillermo del Toro, it’s no surprise that Pacific Rim focuses on dazzling visuals more than anything else. It’s a summer spectacle of the highest order that’s actually worth seeing in IMAX.
The performances were not bad (being a performer myself in both stage and film I have decent frame of reference) though the characters were written as archetypes. The movie was about accessing the 10 year old inside. Not about stellar performances. I am not saying the movie is not flawed, but it is one of the only new IPs of the summer that strayed from a safe story. So pacific rim movie step down off your critical high horse (cause I could be the same way, hell it was one of things they taught me in university) and if a movie does not interest you to begin with don’t review it. Now go watch some Neon Genesis Evangelion, Godzilla, Ultraman, and a host of other Japanese influenced movies, or shows and then you can understand watch Del Toro was trying to do.
because you don’t know anything about them. I liked ‘Real Steel’. Without the father/son relationship and a feel for the characters, it would’ve been just another empty action flick. Legendary seems to put out a lot of empty flicks. Makes me nervous about their ‘Godzilla’. Well, if Hollywood botches this version as well, it’s unlikely that Toho will license to anyone in the future. he means that there is a review embargo of Pacific Rim until July 8 i think.
There’s certainly a lot more foreplay in Godzilla before we get to see it bump monsters, which is part of the charm. It begins in 1999, where Bryan Cranston is working as a seismologist at a nuclear plant in Japan, trying to understand the craaazy readings he’s been getting on all his graphs and charts and speculums. Pretty soon the shit hits the fan and he has to close the airlock on his special lady (Juliette Binoche, in her most important role), trapping her inside with the nuclear smoke monster and Chernobyling the entire town.

That said, I won’t say no to reading the “Pacific Rim” plot synopsis, which only serves to sell the awesome-sounding movie even further. Check out the full synopsis and Legendary Pictures press release after the jump!
Did you even read the reviews? No, you didn’t. He didn’t love Twilight, he simply stated that compared to the others it was the most enjoyable of the franchise and a film that disgruntled boyfriends can at least get enjoyment out of while suffering through it with their gals. The others you mentioned were great movies. Sure, everyone’s opinion of great” is different, but that doesn’t invalidate the review. Learn to look beyond the score, young Padawan.
I would give the movie 7/10. It had too much sfx which kind of diluted those moments. Like having the same meal every day with very little variation. I’m also getting tired of the political fanfare in these films. The plot conveniently had the Russian and Chinese mechs fight alone in order to eliminate them, leaving the American and Australian mechs to save the day. What’s the point of saving the Australian mech as a last line if the Russian and Chinese mechs can’t do the job together? Wouldn’t having all three fighting increase their chance of survival?
I don’t think it’s so much that Elysium” will undeniably have better VFX- although, the trailers do seem to indicate that they’re nothing short of photorealistic-but the film does more with less. Pacific Rim” was made on a $180 million budget, and that’s what it looks like-whereas Elysium” was made on a $100 million budget but appears to look more like a $180-$190 million budget. You’re welcome! And thanks so much for visiting. I swear you’ll have a great time with Pacific Rim.
Pacific Rim was directed by Guillermo del Toro, from a script written by Travis Beacham. The cast includes Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Max Martini, Robert Kazinsky, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Diego Klattenhoff, and Brad William Henke. Now available on DVD & Blu-ray! Actually, it meets them a whole hell of a lot better than satellite weapons or any kind of fixed fortification.
Persisting physical and mental torment, it is just Solomon Northup’s determination and undiminished any expectation of a finer life that permits him to survive. With the lion’s share of the dialog impending straightforwardly from the book whereupon its based, this film may be the most determined depiction of subjection yet.
In this audit of 12 Years a Slave Movie, I never got to the acting in the film. For the record, I’ll say that its extraordinary all around, and these fellows truly comprehend what they’re doing. There’s additionally a genuine risk that Michael Fassbender will at any rate be assigned for some fittings in this approaching film honors season for his function as a supporting performer in this film. On the other hand, I likewise wouldn’t be stunned if this film winds up being a leader for Best Picture and all that stuff. I don’t know whether they’ll win, however that is not vital to me. What';s vital is that individuals go out and see it. Some of you may shed a couple of tears focused around the responses that I saw from the screening that I went to.
It’s simply ending up being such an inconceivable years for movies. Effortlessly the best of last 8-10 years. Furthermore I don’t need Brad to quit giving A+s only in light of the fact that he has given enough in the not so distant future. He ought to judge a film on its legitimacy independent of what number of A+s he has given in past. On the off chance that this wasn’t my most foreseen film for whatever remains of the year as of now, it surely is currently. I have to go watch Mcqueen’s different movies now.
I saw 12 years a slave yet avoided a percentage of the exceptionally rough parts. I discovered this film pitiful. I viewed it in light of the fact that it is a paramount verifiable motion picture. I am happy these awful times are over. Best to watch with your folks. A cathartic knowledge of sorts, 12 Years A Slave accomplishes something few different movies do. It makes you uncomfortable. In the event that it demonstrates that owning slaves is a reason for craziness and mental issue then it is great.
This is effortlessly the most energized I’ve been over a survey all year and this is currently beyond any doubt my most foreseen for whatever is left of the year. I know you’ll have a gigantic Oscar redesign after Toronto Brad, however do you see this having any genuine risks or will it simply be excessively dull? I for one wouldn’t be astounded on the off chance that it doesn’t get a solitary assignment while The Butler gets lavished with distinguishment.
The cumulative emotional effect is devastating: the final scenes are as angry, as memorable, as overwhelming as anything modern cinema has to offer.
Steve McQueen, prior to making 12 Years a Slave, has been projecting his ability to create thought provoking and visually stimulating works of art, starting with short films at the beginning of his career covering an incredibly diverse range of subjects. He won the Turner Prize , he worked as a war artist in Iraq and in 2008 he made his feature film debut with Hunger about the 1981 Irish hunger strike. He then went on to make Shame about a sex-addict and following on from that made 12 Years a Slave.
As a viewer, I don’t care if the director is black, white, male, female, whatever. What I care about is what I see on the screen. If what I see on the screen is not what I know to be true, I’m not going to remain quiet. 12YAS was really set up to make the white people feel good. A lot of them even said it’s a corrective” to Django because as we all know, in Django, the white people were all killed. You can watch the movie in minutes or add it to “My Rentals” to watch it later in the week.
Driven by the best performances of the year, bold directing, and a compelling true story that reminds us of our nation’s shameful, inhumane past, it is a film destined to enjoy a reputation as one of the greatest films ever produced about slavery. This isn’t simply an important movie, but a dose of brutal truth that must be confronted, and done so with absolute certainty. Solomon Northup: I will not fall into despair! I will keep myself hardy until freedom is opportune!
to be honest i don’t think the film should be pro or anti slavery it should just tell the story line in the way it was viewed at the time and pre civil war america very few cared about the plight of slaves. in the southern states slavery was a fact of life and most people ether where indifferent and many people thought it normal.
